after having to drop this book reading a few pages each time, i finally finished it. and yes, as it is already proclaimed to be it is ONE OF A KIND - genre-bending and one that consumes you whole.
probably took the longest time - over the period of a month to read it but it was constantly on my mind. INEXPLICABLE - until you experience it yourself.

This was amazing. I grabbed it from the library, not expecting much... certainly didn’t expect to like it as much as I did.

I have been anticipating picking up this book for a long time and, while it didn't quite hit those 5 star heights, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Pessl does an absolutely amazing job of creating such a creepy vibe and atmosphere throughout the story. The creepy tension just kept building, it was really well done.

I also thought the used of mixed media throughout the book was really well executed. It was not over used at all, but just enough.

I know the ending of this book induces a lot of mixed feelings amongst readers and, while I was a little disappointed with the ending, I did think it was a truly fitting end to the story.
Spoiler It seemed pretty evident as the story was going on that Pessl was going to end the book as though it was in and of itself a Cordova meeting.

Honestly, if this is a book that sounds up your alley, definitely pick it up.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Suicide

A gripping book, but frequently quite creepy and scary. Definitely one to only read in the daylight, with people around! I enjoyed it, but it was not as good as Special Topics in Calamity Physics, which was her first novel.

Some intriguing scenery and a few honestly creepy scenes. Pessl's efforts to create a renowned and pervasive body of film work for her fictional auteur are impressive. If only her characters had as much depth and dimension as her director's oeuvre. A fast-paced but somewhat forgettable sophomore effort.

I actually really want to give this book 3.5 stars, but what can you do? It was too long. WAY. TOO. LONG. There could have been a lot of editing out of repetition. However, the story was fascinating and intriguing and I thought, unique. I recommend it to anyone who has some time to languish in a very intricate mystery.

2.5

Story is great, some characters are great. Writing excellent and I love books that use fake news article and documents. Racism and sexism abound for absolutely no discernable reason. I struggled with rating this.
