This is SO intoxicating !

This book was insane. Scared the poop out of me for a good 85% of it. *shudders*

This book is amazing, hands down one of the best books I've read in a long time! I don't want to give anything away, so many plot twists! Just read it !!

*4.5

I'm really excited to finally be finished with this book. It was way too long. I really liked the format in the beginning, where it alternated between narrative and internet screen shots for background information. It was a really unique concept. And I did like the context of cult film, and the bit of commentary about how our minds sensationalize things and can really trick us into alternate realities.

I probably should have seen that “ending” coming.

I’m not really one to write reviews, but the amount of times I rolled my eyes was incredible. I thought the mystery/horror aspect was compelling enough, though disappointing in the end, but what completely ruined this for me was Scott fucking McGrath. I’m demanding reparations from Marisha Pessl for making me endure a narrator who is full of himself while not-so-vaguely misogynistic, racist, and homophobic- a real plus during Pride month (I guess you could say I’m a masochist?) Scott is a real Man’s Man who goes on really weird monologues about women that honestly should’ve been on the Men Write Women Twitter page. Also the racist stereotypes of Asians that were weaved through Scott’s attempt to be a funny narrator was the cherry on top. One that really blew my fucking mind was calling a Korean woman “Confucius’ punk rock sister”

Great book. From the very first pages the author sucks you in. I literally could not put this book down. There's some twists that might leave you feeling disappointed, but by the end there's even more twists that will leave you satisfied when you close the book.
