Only gets a two star cause the love interest was cute. But I am totally uninterested in a novel that paints all other women as the enemy, especially when it's centered around 15-18 year old girls. I only finished this out of sheer stubbornness and skimmed big sections of it. Not recommended.

I honestly really enjoyed this book but it's definitely been my least favourite out of the three Emery Lord books I've read. My main issue with Open Road Summer was the trash talking of females and it didn't even come from a guy but the main character, herself. Reagan wears tight, skimpy clothing and a push up bra to showcase her cleavage, yet when other girls in the book wore something similar she would slander them by calling them skanks, tramps, etc.

But there was also a lot to love. My favourite part was actually the friendship dynamic that runs throughout the entire novel. Lilah and Reagan have been close friends for years and seeing them on tour together, going through hardships really made me realise how much I love my friends. I also really enjoyed the romance between Reagan and Matt Finch. It was just super super cute.

the more I think about this book, and talk to people about it, the more I dislike it.. sooo I am bumping this down to a 1 star.. I had such high hopes for this book and it let me down.
As much as I like Dee, I hated Reagan. She got on every single one of my nerves. Just, ugh.

Ah, perfect book, perfect. :)

It has all the right ingredients for a good book: Romance, Roadtrips, Bad and Good boys, Songs.

Reagan and her friend (and singer) Dee are on a tour through the US (24 cities), everything goes right, until there is a scandal and Matt (our lovely, gorgeous boy) has to step in and come with them on the tour.

I loved, adored, Reagan, though I also wanted to smack her at times, especially during some parts with Matt. Though, I can also kind of understand why she did what she did, with her past and everything that happened the last few months. I loved how much she cared for Dee, like a sister, like a friend, she was always there for her and would go to her immediately if Dee needed help or was in trouble. You don't always find friends like that and Dee is one very lucky girl. Though the same goes for Reagan, she has an amazing friend in Dee.
There was one thing I didn't like about Reagan, how she was acting all tough and bad girly, while in reality she was a sweet girl who just picked the wrong things in life, but tried her best to find a way back to the right road. I wish she would have seen it herself and sooner. :)

Dee was a cute character, and she grew in this book. From, what I felt in the beginning, cute and no real plans about the future, to a girl who really thinks about her future, but also her past, with Jimmy (I still keep hoping they will get together again, they deserve each other). I loved how she pushed through her life, no matter what comes on her path. She is a fighter and my opinion through the book really goes from so-so to wow, awesome girl!

Matt, ah *swoon* Matt. Wonderful, sweet and dreamy. I loved him, how he was around Dee and more important, how he was around Reagan. They are a perfect match together. Both have experienced some rotten things in their lives and both know pain. Matt was a really great guy, and loved how much he stayed with Reagan, how much he loved her, even though her bad girl attitude should have caused many guys to run away, he stayed.

Of course there relationship is not without bumps and holes, but they get through it.

I truly loved this book. I liked to read about the cities they went through, the concerts were fun, and again, the sparks around Matt and Reagan were wonderful. I would really recommend it to everyone! Read this, you won't regret it!

I liked the Jeni's ice cream shout out, but Dee was just too much like Taylor Swift for me (right down to her antique shopping) and none of the other characters felt real to me either.

I've just started to read this book and then instantly gave it up after reading this sentence:

"Idiosync mocks clichés, which is why I like it, but if they made fun of Dee, I’ll have to cancel my subscription and send anonymous hate mail."

I'm not supporting a character who would be capable of sending anonymous hate mail.

This is not loyalty. This is s*ckiness.

3 1/2 stars This was a well-written YA debut novel, although I did find a few typos and slight discrepancies, which always take me out of the story a bit.

The main character, Reagan, is different from the typical YA character. Despite her hard exterior and sometimes even mean inner dialogue, I loved the honesty and resiliency of her character. I also thought that the main supporting characters, particularly her best friend country super-star Lilah, were very well-drawn out. However, some of the minor characters felt like they were thrown in as an afterthought to give the story more depth.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
(Just a heads up - the target audience for this book is definitely for older teens.)
