Maybe parts of the story are old and have been done before, but the relationships between Reagan, Dee, and Matt are entertaining. The 'Say Anything' moment at the end of the book saved the conclusion for me. 85

Open Road Summer sounded like a really good book. The cover kind of intrigued me. Then the synopsis. However, when I actually met the characters - le sigh. I just didn't like them. Overall, I thought the plot was going to make this book a pretty quick and easy read but I just couldn't connect with anyone. It felt like (to me at least) that the characters (some not all) were just whiny and super unlikable. For example, if I was in this book and I was with someone who was whining ALL the time. I would slap them so hard and walk away.

If only I liked the MC as much as I liked everyone else in this book then Open Road Summer would've earned so many stars (like 5 tops) but it didn't. Also, why were the characters so cliché at times? I kept flipflopping on if I liked Matt or if I despised his character. I didn't like Regan or Lilah at all. Now if I could recommend a change in the characters - I would want them to empower girls. Not slut shame or call them bitches constantly. It was just annoying to read.

I wanted to like it. I really did but I didn't and I have no idea if I would even give this book another chance or not.

This book does a wonderful job of portraying a friendship between a "normal" person and a celebrity.

However the narrator can be a bit crazy (not in the good way) sometimes I found her moves to be unrealistic. Great ending though!

Super Cute read! I love that the story was about the best friend of the super star and not the super star. It almost seemed like we're getting the side story to the main character even though Reagan was the main character. I wish I would have seen a little more of Reagan's past life so I could see the growth of her character instead of just being told about the growth and her past life in flashbacks, but it still worked. I liked this so much more than When We Collided. Perfect spring/summer read!

As a huge fan of Emery Lord's book The Start of Me and You I was so excited to be able to read this book. I am happy to report that it didn't disappoint. Emery has a way of writing that just draws me in from the very first chapter. Her characters are brilliantly written, in a way that makes you fall in love with them but also makes them realistic by giving you moments where you want to reach into the book and shake them silly. The storyline is like something out of a fan fiction story, anyone who dreams of travelling with a music tour or falling in love with a music star. Reagan is a fantastic main character, with faults and flaws that she is aware of and still falls into, but she's owning it and proves herself independent and strong. She has a connect with Matt and those moments are so lovely, and even though there was *that moment* (no spoilers) and I'm glad that Reagan stood her ground and kept to her new morals after everything she had been though with her ex, I still wanted to shout at her that she was making the wrong decision. These kinds of characters are the best kind because they're realistic and believable. I also loved the friendship shown through this book, especially as it's a unique circumstance that these girls are in. I definitely recommend this book, I'm so glad that I read it and I can't wait to see what's next from Emery Lord!

To be honest I was a little dissapointed. I just totally didn't get the main character, she was so unrelateable, she is nothing like me. I realted more to Dee, I'd have prefered it if the book would have been only about her. I loved that she is literally Taylor Swift (who is my queen by the way). But idk I expected more.

Well, this book has made me realize that I'm starting to grow out of YA novels. Or, at the very least, contemporary/romance only YA novels. This entire story just felt too juvenile, mostly thanks to Reagan the main character. The scorn for all other females was so distracting and immature. Literally EVERY character who isn't Reagan or Dee is described as slutty or stupid, and usually both. It's so over the top that at first I was thinking maybe it was so noticeable because the author was going to have her grow away from that by the end but nope, no lesson.

What does earn this book a star or two is the friendship between Reagan and Dee. The love between these two girls was way more interesting to me than the relationship between Reagan and whatever the love interest's name is... honestly, I've already forgotten his name and he was a pretty big character, so that should tell you something.

Not worth reading unless you really, really like shallow YA romances. No shame if you do, because I used to love them and still pick one up from time to time. But this one didn't do it for me.
