I didn’t go into this book expecting too much (cute summer atmosphere + cheesy romantic entanglement with a royal) but it still fell really flat for me. It took everything I could to not DNF this one.
Piper is a school teacher who has a minor and not very relevant (until the last 10% of the book) plot line about hosting a romance podcast. This summer, her and her mom find themselves living next to the royals and their hunky bodyguard, and romance ensues.
I think part of the reason this book was a flop for me was that the main love interest is kind of the worst. He was grumpy and annoyed at Piper all the time. The first time they actually hang out in a potential romantic setting, he switches into full blown alcoholic mode with little to no explanation and Piper is just chill with it?
Piper, the main character, is also not the best. She coddles her mom in a way that rubbed me the wrong way. She gets mad at her community for not embracing her but also specifically goes out of her way to avoid them. And then at the end of the book after only one quick side plot about her romance podcast, she makes it her whole personality and goes on a whole tirade to defend the fact that she’s a romance reader to her community. It felt so random.
Overall, not a fan of this one! I wanted something easy and cheesy, and left annoyed.

Already wasn’t totally sold on this one, but the monologue near the end was just a level of cringe that I could not handle.
Also seemed totally unnecessary for her mom to have BPD and other mental health issues since they were more or less glossed over. Kinda just felt like an easy way for the author to make her mom “difficult” without having to do any character development.

it has been a super long time since i’ve read a full length novel in one day so i think that’s praise enough!
but seriously i loved this one, super cute and really entertaining but with an amazing including of mental health conditions you don’t typically see in romance books which i loved
