I liked this book better than the first one because it gives the characters more depth, it just took a while to get there because of the fan service in the first half. To be honest, Fleurie, Colden, and the Prince got me through the first half. I never thought I would tire of spicy scenes and actually ask for some real action lol

Reading this as an ebook rental on Libby, I just ended up not having enough time to get through it. It took me a while to get into it, and I honestly was just a little disappointed by the amount of spice already in just the first half of the book. And I wasn’t going to force myself to keep going, when I was already getting kinda bored of it.
I have no issue with smut, but I just felt like it became too much that it took away from the plot and the two MCs. And it didn’t line up with the type of book that came before. Book 1 was solid world-building and setting up the tension and plot, with some spice. This was already 4 times the spice by 50% through the book, with little action, and it was to the point where I felt like it was taking away from the characters’ development. Like all the FMC cared about anymore was getting laid. It was like Book 1 was a fantasy with romance. And Book 2 is now a spicy romance that happens to be fantasy. Make it make sense…there’s a time and space for those books of course, but not when that wasn’t the expectation set from Book 1. If I had the book as a physical copy I probably would’ve ended up finishing it, but alas here we are
