A 5-star I wasn't expecting but damn was it good. Never suspected the ending (in a good way there was plenty of hints along the way looking back) and this is a great YA choice for older kiddos.

It is definitely a slow build but stick with it

Este libro empieza muy bien. Te engancha desde las primeras páginas. Continúa bien, podría haber continuado mejor, pero está bien. Y los últimos capítulos da un revés o un plot twist que no te esperas para nada. Los personajes están muy bien construidos y la ambientación es fabulosa.

Months later, I’m still thinking about this book as if it were tattooed on my brain. I cannot say enough good things, but read it now (please). Nothing is particularly out of the ordinary in the magic system at the beginning, but then C. S. Pacat works their magic and further enchants the story (and the reader). I was completely immersed, and quickly moved onto the second book. Having finished this book in early June 2025, I think a reread will be coming before the year is over.
