this book was a journey and a HALF!!! I thought the last 150 pages were absolutely phenomenal but the ENDING????? fuck me that was good

What on earth did C.S. Pacat put into this book? Off the bat it sounds kind of boring; Chosen One trope, Light vs. Dark, whatever, we’ve seen it before. I enjoyed the vibes and I was never clawing my eyes out trying to get through even though it was very slow paced. (Like honestly, not much happens and there’s a lot of building up for the majority of the book.)
But then THE ENDING?? WHAT??
I know that it is such a lame thing to say in a review, but I don’t even know if I could tell you exactly what it is about this book, I just am in love, characters and all. I can tell you for sure that part of it has to do with the twists and turns near the ending and the way it sets up for the next one, and there’s not much more to say without spoilers. (Will and Violet’s platonic relationship really does something for me too.)

super slow start but the ending more than made up for it
I kept seeing raving reviews of this series and thought it's not for me because it's YA. Boy have I been wrong. I didn't expect a YA book to be so brutal.
I just finished and 5* feels just right. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was amazing. Except for his voice of the aunt, sorry but no.
YA is not my favorite genre and I haven't touched it in years. I am still not a fan but I enjoyed this book greatly. Already purchased and downloaded book two because let's be honest, after that ending you have to read book two.
