i did like this very much (oh, the characters in this!! cherry especially, and marina, and mr. rodd (their relationship!!? bloody hell!) and the fussing pussy and miss marple, too) but somehow i am not sure about quite some things, still, which usually doesn't happen to me with christie's novels. did heather's murderer kill giovanni and ella, too? why would they, they don't seem ruthless? why did ella call the wrong person? also, heather's husband also being marina's first husband just seemed very unlikely and very unnecessary. but the mystery was so well thought out and perfectly constructed, and the solution was so natural and had incredible emotional impact.

Not my favourite Christie, but satisfying nonetheless. Especially as I got to read it in my favourite way - all in one go while on a train journey.

I went through an Agatha Christie stage. I think I have read most of her mysteries, and enjoyed them all!

Agatha Christie never disappoints as a mystery writer.

i love cherry, miss marple and miss knight's dynamic, it hit something so personal for some reason. i love you nosy gossip and old ladies. the mystery was fun enough, though, love a lady of shalott reference

I thoroughly enjoyed this Miss Maple installment! The mystery was interesting, the characters were three dimensional, and I was surprised by the ending!

My favorite quote -
"The new world was the same as the old. The houses were different, the streets were called Closes, the clothes were different, the voices were different, but the human beings were the same as they always had been. And though using slightly different phraseology, the subjects of conversation were the same" (14).

This was a recurring theme through the novel. The surface characteristics of people and places may have been different than earlier generations but the foundations were always the same. People still acted with similar motivations and beliefs even though their style of dress or conversational slang had changed. The novel was a basic study in human nature.

The first Agatha Christie I've actually solved! I think that might actually be because the writing was clumsier though 😅
