Wow. I’m a sucker for a hurt/comfort romance between broken but good people, and Lordy are Haidee and Amun both. Fairly fast burn with lots of angst (he’s demon-possessed, she’s a demon killer), fated mates, and LOTS of graphic sex. I haven’t read anything else in this series but was able to follow along.

Haidee is cursed with being reincarnated when she dies, and the only thing she can remember from her past lives are the painful parts. She’s pissed at the world for making her this way, at the demons for killing her family/friends, at herself for not being stronger. She’s badass and tries not to care about people so she doesn’t get hurt.

Amun is possessed by the demon Secrets, so he can read minds/pasts (without necessarily wanting to). He chooses to be mute to avoid spilling all the awful crap he has to listen to. At the end of the prior book, he absorbed a ton more demons and is going insane from their memories and thoughts.

Their plot line is great, their interactions are sweet and tender even though they should despise eachother. The sex is immediate (bc plot, idk) but ignoring that, the romance develops more naturally alongside it. The *protectiveness* on both of their parts, mwah, love to see it.

The side plot about some other people (Strider, William) was boring and crass. I also thought the crazy bits at the end to get to the HEA were forced and would’ve appreciated it ending without one. I teared up only for everything to be magically fixed in the end. Boo.
