Enjoyed listening to Alex reading the audio version there is just something different about hearing the author share their story!

I listened to the audio of this book and it was something I looked forward to doing every day - I did not want it to end. Alex speaks of his brother (and his family) with such love that it hurt my heart thinking about how much he must miss Ed. He's a fabulous storyteller and although my husband (who is the biggest VH fan I've ever known) tells me that fans of the band already knew most of the information, I enjoyed it all. Ed and Alex lived a fascinating life, immigrating from the Netherlands as young boys and arriving in a place so completely different from their home. It is truly fascinating to learn about the humble lifestyle in which they were raised and the raw talent their parents encouraged throughout their lives. Highly recommend for any rock and roll fan.

A loving tribute from a big brother who lost his little brother. A story of immigrant children, complicated family relationships, and being in one of the biggest bands in the world. I recommend the audiobook if only because I liked when Alex laughed at his own jokes. I was surprised that there was only 30 minutes left by the time we got to Eddie getting sick and passing. It was only talked about briefly and vaguely. I guess he wanted to focus more on Eddie’s life than his death.

Somewhat interesting to learn about their childhood. Alex van Halen should never read a book aloud.

I wanted to love this book but it just feels incomplete. Not just for the fact that Alex has so little to say about the band or Eddie post-1984 (the year and album), but because it so often hints at depth that isn’t explored and stories that aren’t told. I appreciate the themes of “brotherhood” and “loss” that Alex was exploring almost enough to excuse the over-emphasis on David Lee Roth. As a long time VH fan already steeped in lore, I was rather bored and rarely surprised. I do hope Alex got some catharsis and peace from the writing experience.

An enjoyable, honest, sometimes endearing look at brothers, creativity, and rock and roll in the 70s/80s.
