grammar policing is often avoiding the message itself. snobbery is prejudice and that is nothing to be proud of.

I feel like I’m being a bit harsh with the 2,75 stars here, think of it as 3-. The subject of the book was really interesting and the facts presented were new to me and it changed the way I think about english as a language. I just really didn’t like the writing style. It felt painfully millenial-quirky-white-feminist core. 😭 I just hated it and it really made it go from a good 3,5 stars to 2,75. She also got some historical facts horrendously wrong and since I’m a history student I can’t let that pass. 🥲

Fascinating and funny, I will never feel bad about saying “like” and “um” again. Everyone should read this.

I’m late to the party but this is such a great book. I loved the way it was set out and how it approached the topic. Super interesting, entertaining and reflective. I have a lot to think on after reading and had lots of discussions with my partner as I learned about each concept. This is a book that really makes you think but it’s entertaining and lively. Don’t skip the footnotes!

If you want to insult a woman, call her a prostitute. If you want to insult a man, call him a woman.

A bit heavy on the millennial humour here and there, but a really enjoyable and informative read. Montell's next book is already on my radar.

Definitely the most interesting book I've read this year. I'm sure this is going to be the next feminist book I bully everyone into reading.
