wordslut is an informative and pretty comprehensive account of the relationship between the english language and gender, accessible in both content and style.

i like how montell continually gives an overview of a particular topic before delving into its history, evolution thruout the yrs, the discourse thats and has been around it, and eventually focusing on present usage and possible future changes. it's an effective approach bc only when one knows the root cause can they fully approach dismantling or challenging it.

this book also finally gives word to whats been knocking in my own head for many yrs: linguistics and gender! and i couldnt help nodding tf off in agreement so often while reading. while a lot of montell's observations and analysis are nothing groundbreaking, her act of comprising all the bits and pieces in one place and comprehensively verbalizing them are very reaffirming and validating. and the new info i did learn makes me reflect on my own complicity, shedding new light on long-held views, and i rly appreciate that.

Incredibly interesting book. Lots of insight into how we talk and why and what we can do to make language less oppressive and more inclusive.

As a lover of language, this book was enlightening and fascinating. "Wordslut" sheds some light on common derogatory statements made against women and traces their origins back to what they were originally intended for.
I think the etymology of words is such an interesting study. How does a word originally created to describe "X" evolve to mean "Y"? This novel is informative and entertaining. I highly recommend this for anyone who considers themselves a feminist or anyone who is interested in words.
