Sanderson got my cackling aloud in public šŸ¤£ I did not predict any of the twists and I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the events of these books relate to the stormlight archive series but I guess I'll see

Utterly brilliant, such good world building and characters. The magic system was so interesting and well paced in when the reader was given more info. I liked Siriā€™s plot the best, but all of them were interesting. Not to mention how opaque everyoneā€™s motives were and the mystery of that. I also liked all of Vivianna's inner dialogue about who she had been raised to be and what she had been told to believe.

Fantasy, Magic System, Multi-POV

Every time I think Brandon can't possibly come up with a new magic system that feels fully developed I am yet again proved wrong!!

There is quite a bit of tone shifting throughout this book, which sometimes made it difficult to actually sit with the hardship and character development. Especially when we go from Vivenna starving on the streets to Lightsong lounging and making jokes, it made me cringe and put the book down. Which, I guess, is what it was supposed to make me feel, but I couldn't tell if that was purposeful or just a happy accident.

The twists and plot hooks, however, are stellar as always! Cannot wait to read more about Vivenna and Vasher in the future šŸ˜

An incredible stand-alone fantasy book about sisterhood, faith, and self-discovery that takes place in the middle of two countries on the brink of war.  The magic of Divine Breaths permeates the cultures of the land of Nalthis as the Court of Gods discuses the perceived betrayal of their decades-old contract.
If youā€™re a Christian and you have an interest in considering your own cultural or religious biases, this book will certainly help you start.

That was incredible! The magic system, the characters, the humor, the themes, the worldbuilding in generalā€¦ I loved it.

However, a few words and expressions used felt out of place, which took me out of the story. And I wish the ending was not so rushed.

This book was my introduction to the Cosmere. I will definitely read more. :)

PS: Lightsong was hilarious! He's my favorite. I'm still thinking about him.

This was one of the harder Cosmere novels for me to get through. I had a personally difficult time with the systemic misogyny leveled at Siri through most of the book, particularly
having her hymen checked for virginity without her consent, the nightly humiliation being made to strip down and be a sex object for Susebron, and the repeated title of ā€œVesselā€ instead of Queen because sheā€™s treated as more of an incubator than a person
. I also wish we learned the magic system earlier on, and had a hard time empathizing with Vivenna at times. This book did ultimately enhance some other moments in The Stormlight Archive for me, though, so Iā€™m ultimately glad to have finished it.

One star removed for having to read Blushweaver so much, half off for taking too long to develop Vivenna even tho I understand why she progresses the way she does. If this ever gets a sequel Iā€™ll probably read it.
