I could have liked this book less. But not much less. A reconstituted direct response marketing framework from a guy that doesn’t understand story and seems to think he invented direct response marketing.

Miller's Storybrand concept is intriguing but his writing comes off as self-promotional and self-congratulatory. There was a huge section at the beginning of the book about how you should make the customer the hero in the story and not talk so much about your company and why you're great, but then that's basically all this book was. It really felt like reading a commercial for Storybrand (TM) most of the time.

While I did think the concept was interesting, especially the comparisons with movies, the method seemed to fall flat in practice. I found its formulaic nature and rules an obstacle to creativity when I tried to use it in writing copy.

This book is written toward business owners, particularly business owners who know nothing at all about marketing. Marketers, this book is a skim at best. Business owners - if you're looking for a fill in the blanks approach this might be perfect.

A good book on the intersection of marketing and storytelling, if a bit light on information.
