Very high highs and a brilliant closing essay. Many of the poems are acerbic to a fault. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.

Collection of poetry from Karr that traces her conversion from aggressive atheism (horrid childhood -- read autobiography if up for that) to Catholicism. Unique and refreshing take on spirituality, forgiveness, and the potential goodness of humanity.

Words can hold and release so much power, especially on the tips of the right fingers. The afterword was just as remarkable as the poetry. Mary Karr is a treasure!

I just prefer Mary Karr's prose. The essay was good; I skipped the poems.
