Oh gods I can finally breathe.

I don't have the strength to go and write a review for Candidate, so I'll just put it all here. Because, honestly, at the speed I read this it's not like I could really tell where one book finishes and the other starts.

I am in a train, surrounded by people, cornered to a window, not even able to extend my legs, with a mask on my face, and I'm about to cry.
This book was infuriating. Frustrating. Dense in its lies. Not unexpected.
But even if I would have liked for once for the story to be made other way, it was still somehow brilliant.
I was anxious. I had to skip through some of Ryiah's repetitiveness and angst, but it was worthy in the end.
It was beautiful how the Crown was remade. It was touching that its characters still managed to stay together.
It was also cheap how Darren and Ryiah got to live because of "some unexplainable magic", but I will let it slide, since it wasn't straight happy ending after that.
There were twists I didn't expect here, a lot more death and pain, and tons of stubborness.
But overall, a very strong lesson on allegiances, love, and the greater good.

o my god. this book was just AMAZING.

it was a fuckin emotional rollercoaster. i cried all the time when i was reading last chapters. to be honest, I'm still not okay after this and my heart still hurt me.

i totally didn't expect such a ending but i must say: it's simply beautiful. also fight scenes. they were so phenomenal and epic.

i don't know what else i can say. i still feel so empty after what i read so i'll just say that this finale was perfect and probably one of the best that i've ever read.

Thanks to Rachel E Carter for giving me this book to review.

Last Stand is the brilliant final book in The Black Mage series. It is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat with all the twists and turns. This story is an emotional rollercoaster and is the darkest story of the series with some very dark points.

Ryiah is determined to stop Blayne even though it will cost her everything, and she is a good character who is selfless even though she doesn’t see it herself. This is the first book where I truly understand Darren (probably because I have read Non-Heir) and I really liked his character, especially in the first third of the book, as he is so understanding and caring despite him being under so much stress. I felt very sorry for both Ryiah and Darren as they are both caught in situations they cannot escape no matter how much they want to.

I love this book and this series, and I cannot wait to read Rachel’s next book. I really recommend Last Stand and The Black Mage to anyone as they are excellent Fantasy books.

Wow. Just wow. This was definitely an epic conclusion to this four book series. As conflict and plot go, it's been a very long time si nice I've seen characters put through everything Darren and Ryia were put through by Rachel Carter.

This book took me from an improbable love and stretched it to its breaking point. I'll not spoil it by revealing whether it broke or triumphed, but let's just say the struggles were not for the "faint of heart". Carter put this couple through just about every trial a couple can endure. And I think you'll feel deeply for them for while our modern day struggles aren't exactly theirs, we can certainly identify. My heart is still hurting for them even the morning after I finished reading it.

I won't iterate all the trials, but I have no worry you'll find the action non-stop and well developed characters. Carter did an amazing job wrapping up this series and I definitely recommend this read.

Ahhhhhh! This book had me up late till I finished it. And then I couldn't fall asleep after. I'm sad the series is over. I wasn't ready to say goodbye.

I don't think I have ever cried so much over a book in my life. My other half didn't know what to do as I balled my eyes out while continued reading this book in one sitting. To say the least he was distraught. I had to continue reading this book even though every page was a fresh boat load of tears that just wouldn't stop flowing. That's why I've given this book 5 stars because it was just epic. There are no words that could describe the ups and downs of emotions while reading this book. I will never forget it nor will I think I would re read it. It was such a bitter sweet ending that it was done right and glad the author didn't take the fairytale ending to the max.
