I can’t say enough good things about this book; the love that blooms between Alex and Henry, the full-hearted friendships, the mamas that came out swinging for their children. Just wow. My heart ached and warmed and shattered and exploded. I ugly cried and laughed. I especially loved the bits of prose that the two share between emails—that’s the kind of Austen-esque romantic shit I just eat up every single time. This book is also soothed something that’s been hurting in me since 2016. It brought back a lot of ugly, hard feelings from an ugly, hard time. McQuinston gives a place to escape, though. She wrote over the ugliness with a beautiful dream of where hate didn’t win and the marginalized, overlooked and underestimated have a significant seat at the table. This book is so much more than just a wonderful romance story and I can’t recommend it enough.

Review from June 2021:
OMG. I have so much I want to say about this book, but I don't want to spoil anything. For now I'll just say I can't remember the last time I was so sad to see a book end. An absolute delight from start to finish. And the alternate reality of 2016 politics was equally painful and beautiful to imagine. Casey McQuiston is a genius and I'm officially going to read everything they write in the future.

Very cute, queer romance. I can totally understand why it gets as much love as it does. My only complaint is I wish that the real world was more like how this book ended. 😭
