I truly believe this is one of the worst books ever written and I don't understand why people love it. Tell me why? It’s not the writing (clumsy), it’s not the humor (cringe), and it’s definitely not the plot (drivel). The only thing left is the concept and the gays, which is hardly enough reason to hand out stars. For me, it’s a hard zero. I should have DNF it.
The love story is cute albeit super over the top. The politics is just too biased and blatantly preachy to get any more stars from me.

I loved this book so much and would read it again!! The movie wasn’t as good which was disappointing.
one thing about me is that my biggest guilty pleasure is a cliche cheesy romance novel.
This was a wonderful escapist fantasy! Alex was such an accomplished and driven person (such goals) and their romance was cute. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the hate -> love concept, which I usually dislike, worked. Not a single complaint, beyond that it was a little draggy in the middle (but that's because I'm not someone who likes a lot of romance by itself). To be completely honest if this book was only romance I wouldn't have liked it this much, but the backdrop just makes it for me. It's complete political wish fulfillment.
In the author's own words, this is an "escapist, trauma-soothing, alternate-but-realistic reality" that excels at what it sets out to do.
On a completely different note, Henry likes the Great British Baking Show which makes him a national treasure.
