DNF. As a matter of fact, just barely started. Weird. Definitely not Sarah's Key. Not my cup of tea.

A little disappointing: definitely not as good as Sarah's Key, but readable.
Somewhat futuristic, but not so much as to be unbelievable.
Ended abruptly. I felt I was left hanging.

The story line started off so strong, but the ending left me baffled and confused. It got strange real quick.

This is a really great book. It's what I hoped Mexican Gothic would be. It combines futuristic AI with a very human story, & includes a creepy condo that's "watching & listening" to the protagonist. It reads like a very modern Gothic novel.

beautiful prose, interesting characters, and vivid settings. it started out great and had a good build up then the suspense/mystery was cast aside in the last portion of the book. it felt like two separate stories by the end

If I had to describe this book in a single word? Strange.

A single lead character cycles through three kind-of plots--one around a threatening apartment building in Paris, one around the increasing realness of AI, and a totally separate plot about the life crises of this protagonist: her loss of a child, her divorce, the betrayal of a second husband, yada yada.

And I LIKE books about life crises! But the book featured a disjointed plot and plot resolution (not), leaving the reader wondering--what??--at the end of the book.

Tatiana de Rosnay is a good writer, in general. But this book was a jumble.

Sarah’s Key is one of my top book choices, so I was thrilled to receive this advance reader copy from Netgalley. The author, and the setting of Paris is where this book is like Sarah’s key. They rest is a departure. That being said, this book is so thought provoking and flows at an excellent pace. Set in the future, but not hard to see how today’s event could lead there. Imagine how our phones and computers are keeping an eye on us. How unnerving would it be if you knew how much information they were collecting. If you’ve ever read 1984, pick up this updated edition. I think it would be an excellent book club discussion and can’t wait for its release.

I felt like the book started to sound more and more like a translation towards the end. Was that intentional, or laziness?
