Ross is one of the most accomplished thieves in the world. She comes from a well known family of thieves after all. When a job goes wrong, Ross’s plans to spread her wings fail and her mom is being held captive for a hefty sum. Ross is roped into a hunger games style thieving competition for teen thieves just like her. She’s not surprised to see her nemesis, Noelia, but she quickly falls for the debonair Devroe, a fellow thief. She’s split in two trying to follow the Quest family motto, trust no one, when some challenges require her to consider otherwise. The stakes get higher and friendship and relationships are tested up to the thrilling and shocking conclusion.

Okay, all I can say about this book is Wow! Like, actually! It did have far more language than I like (87 cuss words including hell, b**ch, ass, damn, d**k, and a few references to the middle finger- + multiple uses of omg)... but man it was a really interesting ride.
Something a appreciated was that it was not dirty (except for a joking reference to getting "laid"), but still had romance. Prayerfully the next book is that way too bc after that ending I really wanna read it!
Honestly, my favorite character was either Noelia (towards the end) or Mylo (dude made me laugh so freaking hard the whole book).
I can honestly say that if you do read this, you shall be thoroughly entertained.
Another thing I didn't like was the couple of references to Lgbta couples or sexualities... but I was able to look past that because it was an under-toned part (Ross' mom having some sexuality that is not explained, Mylo saying "last time a guy looked at me like that I got laid", and mention of a kid having two moms).
I don't recommend reading the description of the next book until you finish this one though... that's all l'm saying. I made that mistake (it still didn't prepare me for what happened).

Starting off, I want to say that this book would make an AMAZING action movie. The different locations, the plots, the interpersonal dynamics between the characters, just the action scenes. ideas for shots came to my head so naturally while reading.

And it was an exceptional book ...
until the third phase of the gambit.

Starting off with the scene where Ross went up to Nicky. Because what the hell. If bribery was going to get her the billion dollars, why did she even take part in the first place? She could've just spied on someone and bribed them afterwards. (Also, I would be so pissed if I was Nicky if I gave my list that I worked years on gathering the information to some stranger and she got it deleted?!?!?) A lot of it didn't make any sense. And finally, the last chapter plot twists JUST FELT SO CHEAP! Like the first thing that one could come up with. Her mom not being captured at all? Why did I just read the whole book if that was the case? Devroe betraying her? So out of character.

Like... okay... you could come up with something better looking into the magic 8 ball.

i am shooketh. i expected nothing. need the sequel immediately.

thoughts while reading

p82: this does not necessarily bode well. usually you only reveal the plan if it’s gonna fail
p83: an alliance
p166: oh no way, that is smart
p185: i just get this feeling that the other team are listening in somehow. the organisers definitely are
p358: oh shit, the organisers
were the ones to take ross’ mom in the first place
p360: um, to put this politely, everything seems to have gone to shit
