i adored boyfriend material - literally one of my favourite romcoms. but this book was horrible - it made me hate luc, and i’m convinced the author hates the characters as well. it’s probably earned it’s place as one of my most disappointing books of the year and it’s only february. the 2 stars is because i enjoyed the beginning, the side characters, and it had its funny moments. but god what a let down from the first book, i actually wanted oliver to leave luc by the end. i am content pretend that i never read it :/

boring, unnecessary and a disservice to the original, but i love oliver with all my heart and if this entire book exists only as a justification of the few oliver-centered chapters, which let him break free of his parents' clutches, then it's fine by me

i’m always shocked when a sequel is a good. still wanted to strangle each of the characters at some point though.

I like the way this author writes stories, however, I am unsure about how I feel about the ending. I like that it is not typical, but it felt a little odd. This author does a good job of making incredibly easy to read books. The characters seemed a little less realistic in this one than the first one.

After finishing ”Boyfriend Material” last night I decided to dive straight ahead into ”Husband Material”, which is once again inspired by 90s romcom.
2 years in their relationship Luc and Oliver find themselves surrounded by friends who are all getting married. This prompts it them to embark on their own road to the altar. But of course, before they get there it’ll take more than four weddings and a funeral before they get to their I do’s.
In general, I would say I liked this book. I found the structure appealing, whether it was innovative is another matter. But I’m guessing that was not the intention, so no criticism there.
What I found a bigger issue is the fact that each and every time something seemed resolved it would end up getting picked up again later - rainbow arches and traditional values being a thing. And as for character growth, I felt that Oliver had grown and continued to do so throughout the story but Luc sadly seemed to be not much further since the end of BM. And honestly, I got to a point where I would find his decisions hard to comprehend.
So when we reached the climax the story concluded as I expected it to, and from the character’s perspectives I get it and it works but as a reader I sort of felt myself cheated despite it being a profound romantic statement.
I will end by saying that the boys and the chemistry in their relationship do come across as they did in
Book One - at times they had me grinning ear to ear and just contented for a brief moment.
