Grāmata, par kuru aprakstu Kurpjukastes blogā netaisīšu, jo sanāktu ekstra īss. Dažos vārdos - grāmatā ir daudzi skatupunkti, kuriem ir savstarpējā saistība, bet ļoti atšķirīgas cilvēku šķiras - no Bulgārijas vēstnieka Londonā līdz pat prostitūtai. Domāju, ka interesantāk būtu grāmatu lasīt orģinālvalodā, bet tā kā es krieviski ņebumbum, tad man šis prieks atkrīt. Tracinošas bija zemsvītras atsauksmes, kurās tulkotāja centās paskaidrot katru uzvārdu un īpašvārdu pielietojot neizlasāmus krievu vārdus, kas man traucēja uztvert visu tekstu kopumā. Bet izlasīt varēja īsā laika posmā, nesaprotu, kāpēc no tā ilgi atturējos. Ak jā, un nedaudz velk uz Otto Ozola "Latvieši ir visur" pusi, bet tā man laikam šķiet tāpēc, ka no politiska satura darbiem esmu lasījusi šausmīgi maz. 6/10.

I often like to take risks with my reading, trying out new genres and seeking out new authors from new countries to expand my reading horizons. Most of the time those risks pay off, but sometimes they do not. Sadly Mission London is a case of the latter, likely a strong bookish case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me... but also maybe a little bit you’.

This book has been translated from Bulgarian and relies on a lot of humour. I find humour in books tricky at the best of times, everyone’s sense of humour is so different, so I think I just struggled with this particular sense of humour in translation. It was quite slapstick and bawdy, with a duck heist and ‘sexy’ royal impersonators causing chaos being some of the plot points, but there was also some social commentary humour in there too. Sometimes it did risk falling back on tired stereotypes.
Not entirely mad I read it but sadly not much in it for me unfortunately.
