Not nearly as good as Ender's Game. In the afterword Card himself says that the book wound up being a lot more build up to a chapter or two than he meant it to, and I think that the book suffers because of it.

I enjoyed very much watching Ender operate in peace. When he is able to choose where he goes and what he does, his decisions and mode of operating is much more sympathetic. It continues to be difficult not to like him.

Orson Scott Card does not write women well. This book casually circles the theme of relationships and reproduction. Women and girls are pretty consistently portrayed as manipulative or inadequate. This might be a little unfair, since Card wants the reader to see everyone except Ender as inadequate, but even in the scenes without Ender (mostly those between the mother and daughter) women feel like caricatures. It's not necessarily bad, it just feels like lazy writing.

Despite Ender being the only character who was compelling, the plot was dramatic and interesting enough that I wanted to finish the book. It's a good, casual read for a trip somewhere when you want something that is just as easy to put down as it is to pick up.

8/10 Stars. Loved getting more background on what happened to Ender after the Formic war. It's great to see his character develop and manage every situation he's thrust into. Could not have been happier with the outcome of the Morgan/Ender standoff. Such a great series!

Despite a few inconsistencies...or changes to previous information, I thoroughly enjoyed more information about what happened at the end of the war and how Ender became a governor, space traveler, and speaker.
