DNF @ 54%. I would have DNF’d earlier but I kept reading because I wanted to know why Jesse left all those years ago. Guess what?? 54% into the damn book, I STILL don’t know!

Jesse comes home from Afghanistan and Shannon sees him for the first time because SHE drove over to his ranch unannounced with 5 pies as gifts and finds him and his brother mending fences or something. He sees her, he eventually hops into her truck and they drive to their swimming spot on the ranch. She proceeds to strip down to her undies and dives into the water. Just like that. Barely any words were spoken between them beforehand. Several days later he meets up with her and friends at a bar and they pretty much take up where they left off. At this point, SHE HAS NEVER ASKED HIM WTF HAPPENED ALL THOSE YEARS AGO TO MAKE HIM LEAVE OR HOW HE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE LEFT WITHOUT TELLING HER HE WAS LEAVING!!! At this point, I don’t even care why he left anymore.

The author’s writing was kinda repetitive. This is an actual excerpt from the book that I copied and pasted:

“I remembered the chirping bees and the crickets and the lazy buzz of bees all around us.”

Sigh....

I was really close to doing a DNF with this one. I’m not a huge fan of second chance romance but I gave this a try anyways. It ended up being okay but just not for me I think.

This was just so bland. There was way too much inner dialogue. Shannon seemed a little pathetic waiting for Jesse for a decade without living her life at all. The author built so little emotional connection that I skimmed the sex scenes.

And worst of all there was 0 grovel. Tbh she forgives him before he even asks for forgiveness.

Small town romance where MCs reconnect and overcome MMC's past together for HEA.
