I really enjoyed this book. This is my second Emily Henrey book, and while reading this one I bought the third (book lovers). Both experiences I've had with Emily Henrey have been such fun books, that give such great summer vibes. I will say from the title and cover of this book you would of course assume that this book takes place on a beach. Well it does not. There are very few parts of this book that have beach even mentioned and it definitely doesn't give off "beach vibes" the only reason why the title van even be considered relative to the story is because
When both of their books, are done and ready to be published, they read them together on the Beach of the MICHIGAN LAKE
but besides the false beach vibe hope, this story was very fun, and summery. I thought it was well written and funny, the characters were very likable and the chemistry was fantastic! The main thing that stood out about this book to me was that threw the original, literary fiction book, that Agustus was writing, we were able to go to these dark "interviews" that covered really harsh and tragic events and storylines. It opened up the story to being very serious and covering dark topics, while not taking away from the light hearted romance of the story either. I also found it interesting how the author explored the idea of going through the stages of losing a father and then finding out that he was cheating on your mom WHILE SHE HAD CANCER, and it crushing your very idea you had about your past and your view on life in general.
And then in the end she was able to overcome her anger with her dad and really understand him and what he was going through when all of this happened through the letters that he left her.
So overall I thought this book was super fun and light hearted while also covering some very serious topics. I read this book while on vacation in Texas, and read most of it floating in a pool and while the vibes weren't "peachy" they were very good and summery. I was also surprised by how much I enjoyed the side characters, because normally they kind of piss me off. But I think everything about this book was extremely well written. I can't wait to read my next Emily Henry.

I can see why so many people loved this one! Contemporary romance is often a hit or miss for me (I'll watch the movies all day long, but when it comes to books I tend to get a little bored in this genre). But I see why people love Emily Henry so much, and if I want to read some romance I can totally see myself picking up her other books at some point.

I loved the story and characters and found it all to be refreshing and interesting. I think my only issue was that the writing didn't always feel engaging enough for me, I can't really put my finger on what it was. So, it took me a while to finish, but I enjoyed it overall!

I don't have a lot of things to say in a critical sense. I just really liked the vibes in this book. It dealt with a lot of themes around familial trauma and grief of people we knew / thought we knew. It wasn't really a light read the way that the title would suggest, but I was fine with that, because I really like romance to have depth to it and I really felt that this one did. I still like People We Meet On Vacation better, but this was pretty solid.

no thoughts just vibes you know
