It's books like this that make me wonder why I wait so long to read certain books. I loved everything about this, the romance, the banter, the notes, the challenge, the deepness of what the characters are going through, how real it made them seem, all of it.

I adored this story about grief and learning to love again after heartbreak. I loved watching January and Gus's story start before it ever really started. Watching them basically find their way back to each other was so beautiful that it might not make you believe in HEA, but happy-for-nows can be just as good.

I am in love with these two characters!!! They are so overwhelmingly complex and riveting!!!
That slow burn turned into a bonfire!!!
I cried like 5 times!!!

P.S. Gus please marry me I’m begging every time you came home from work dinner would be READY and it would be HOT

Meh?

This was a fine read and there were elements of it I definitely enjoyed, but the FMC got under my skin quite a bit. I do think this book could have benefited from a split perspective because the MMC seemed to be dealing with a ton of emotional baggage that we only really get to see at a distance. The miscommunication trope was too heavy at times and the FMC’s assumptions on what the MMC was thinking were frustrating.

I did love the story being set in West Michigan, it’s a beautiful area that could use some more love in fiction!

I also loved Pete, Maggie, and Shadi. I now desperately want to own a coffee/bookshop in a coastal town in Michigan (with better espresso, of course).

Overall I’d recommend to anyone who wants a quick romance read, or, you know, a good beach read.
