Def one of my comfort books now! The storyline is sooo well developed which really makes you fall in love with all these characters. The banter between the two of them is SO good !!  & basically, they both said allll the right things :))))

Perfection. The characters, the romance, the STEAM...I loved every single word of this book. It wasn't pure fluff, and it wasn't pure filth, but it had a dose of each ;) I thought the main conflicts were realistic, the characters relationship with the outside world realistic, and I just really liked it.

So, just read it. Believe me, it's so good.

TW: cancer, domestic/child abuse, death of parent

I picked this up without knowing anything other than some of my friends recommended it. I thought, based on the cover and title, that this would be a tropical vacation themed read so I read it on vacation. I had to laugh when I realized it actually took place on Lake Michigan and was full of western Michigan charm. Consider my expectations subverted.

This one lands at the intersection of a meet-cute, enemies to lovers, and light chick-lit read. It’s not quite any of those, but has aspects of each. I liked January and Gus a lot, loved his Aunts and their labradors even more. ;)

After January’s dad dies, she has to come to grips with the fact that he was cheating on her mom and her fairytale life feels like sham. She spends the summer next door to fellow author and emo boy, Gus, and the former rivals strike up an unorthodox plan to combat their mutual case of writer’s block.

Ridiculously cute, fun, and cathartic.

Beach read was meant to be a fun rom com and instead all I received was pain. I didn't anticipate the complicated backstories of the main characters, and I thought they linked together in such an interesting and thought-provoking way. I loved the main character, January, she was such a mess and she's so casually charismatic and funny. AUGUSTUS EVERETT HAS MY HEART. "When I watch you sleep, I feel overwhelmed that you exist" EXCUSE ME. And the hand holding and thigh bumping under the table got me. They had such good chemistry, and they really helped each other with their personal challenges they each faced in the book. It was one of those situations where I completely understood, and yet it was so painful, my heart broke for Gus and January.
I loved the commentary on how other writers, and people in general, view romance books and authors who write romance exclusively or at all, especially if they're a woman. I wasn't expecting it and I loved it.
It's so sad how people hype Emily Henry's other book so much more when this was the deeper book with more complex characters in comparison to People we meet on vacation, however I know a lot of people are just looking for a cute romance which that book also has, but still.
Overall this book was amazing and everyone should read.
