I thought the story was pretty good, but the writing was pretty average. I wanted to read this book because of a quote I saw from the book, and that's kind of what the book is like: A lot of decent writing strung together by a few really good pieces of writing. Along with that I feel like the book lacked some emotional depth despite the fact that it was intended to be emotional. I liked the characters, but I never truly got wrapped into them like with other stories. I kept reading because the plot was so good, but I felt no strong emotional connections to these characters like I have with other books. There are times I thought the book was going in that direction, but they never really made it there. I definitely think this book is really good for the right person, but it just didn't appeal to the storylines I usually look for when picking my next book. The characters were still pretty cute together though.

I absolutely loved this book throughout most of it (it's primarily a book about grief and writers block, and really spoke to me), but near the end of it it took a turn in a direction I wasn't anticipating and it ended the book on a bit of a sour note. Definitely still a great book, and I'd recommend it to those looking to process grief more indirectly through story, but it's just not the perfect book I thought it would be for most of it.

Coming from a Michigan girl, this book was the most perfect summer read ever. I adored January and Gus, their romance was sweet and engaging and the setting and side characters were amazing. I wish we got more of Shadi, honestly; she was so funny and I love seeing friendships that feel like relationships. Amazing and fun read.

This is my second Emily Henry read and it didn’t quite compare to how much I liked Book Lovers. I wasn’t expecting it to be melancholy though and I wasn’t quite vibing with that part of it. It was still great and I had trouble putting it down though.
