A romance novel with a subplot about a deadly cult in the Michigan woods and I thought it was only okay??

I explicitly saved this book for a holiday at the beach because I'm obsessed with reading the right book in the right location, but it seems like the timing wasn't right anyway. I wish this would have been more about the writing challenge and banter and rivalry and less drama and less January starting to cry as soon as Gus so much as mentions another woman. Of course it's still Emily Henry so it was enjoyable all in all.

This is still “my perfectly favorite” book. Even after all these years. I was scared that it might not hit the way it had in the past but I’m happy to report, I’m still as emotional, giggly and happy as I was the first go around.

This was my introduction to romance novels, and I think it's a really good starting point.  While I do not gravitate toward the genre, the story and characters really did keep me hooked.  If I had to complain, I would say that
I would have prefer if there was not a proposal at the end.  Also, I see what she did there titling the chapter "Nine Months Later".  You playing with us, Emily? 😂
Great introduction to the genre, but I think my taste in romance is for more "realistic" and "surprising partnership" circumstances.

Fabulous narration and lovely romance story. This was my first Emily Henry and definitely won’t be the last.

And that was the moment I realized: when the world felt dark and scary, love could whisk you off to go dancing; laughter could take some of the pain away; beauty could punch holes in your fear. I decided then that my life would be full of all three.

january and gus were actually really cute and endearing. i really like how this was written and how their relationship progressed naturally. some things other (minor) characters did had me feeling meh, especially when those characters were given a type of redemption arc which i wasn’t about. but the book was still entertaining overall.

don’t really understand why it’s titled “beach read” when the protagonists weren’t big fans of going there and they go there like max twice throughout the book?
