This book was such a beautiful commentary on love, family, grief, loss, and growing into your career. I loved this book. Emily Henry’s insights on personal growth are simply inspiring and had me hooked. I also loved the journey of the writing process and how Janie and Gus’s writing coincided with the plot of the book. The ending was satisfying. 0.5 off for extremely misplaced sex scenes (who has a breakdown and then gets railed?!) and some… interesting… verb choices for touching someone else nicely (really? scraping???) but overall a great novel. Henry should be proud of herself. This is one I would return to again after sitting on it for a little.

Honestly, I wasn't feeling this one as much.  The characters were okay but at times really annoying.  The relationship felt rushed and a bit too forced.  After they admit their feelings it’s revealed they always felt that way since they were in college… it just kinda comes out of nowhere.  Then there was the ending.  I love romance books as much as the next person but that was way too cliché and just really annoying.  I will say I did like some of the banter was pretty good and I did like the cozy summer vibes it had.

Great book, good characters and development. Ending was slightly sudden and could have used a bit more detail. Overall, I liked it but not as much as Henry’s other two books.

A great light-hearted read! Enjoyed using this book as a segue back into reading, a very easy quick read and totally worth while. I'm a sucker for the "grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one" trope.

"You're so perfectly my favorite person."

One thing I will give to romance books is that they are surprisingly binge-able reads. This book honestly gave me 4 star vibes for the first 150 pages, and then it went a bit downhill (there were bits I thought were cringe-y, some parts were just outright weird, the writing style sometimes reminded me of The Hating Game which I did NOT enjoy, and there was miscommunication that I would have rather avoided) until the last 60 pages. The relationship between January & Gus was really sweet overall though, and their banter made me chuckle. I think Emily Henry somehow captured what it's like to fall in love, to meet someone that becomes your favorite person. I also liked how this book touched on grief and forgiving someone even after they are gone, and understanding why people do the things that they do.
