Definitely my favorite of Emily Henry’s flawless collection, maybe my favorite romance book ever (reread!). The romance in this book is impeccable, but the intricacies of the plot are what make it a 5/5. I love how the author explores each of the protagonists’ pasts, including some pretty harsh grief, betrayal, and general trauma, and also delves deeply into the books they are each writing. Honestly, sign me up to read either of those! The characters get tons of development even before they form an attachment. The slow burn enemies to friends to lovers is *chef’s kiss.* Infinitely recommend.

Honestly was a little let down by this book. It was all over booktok but it’s not really my type of romance. I don’t know, I still enjoyed it to an extent, I liked the ending as well. However, I wasn’t hooked in the beginning, I don’t want to say it was boring but to me it was. It was still an interesting plot, just didn’t live up to my expectations or hype. Well written though for sure.

This is the only book that has ever made me laugh out loud...other than Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I was invested so quickly! The book club scene was hilarious, and the banter between January and Gus was great, too. I also loved the subplots, and wished we could dive into those even further. I really appreciated the exploration of learning from/about the people you love. It could be predictable/cheesy at times, but the author sort of embraced it. Overall, it was a great read, and now I know what labradorite is!

This was a much slower read than her other books, the pacing was sort of inconsistent. I loved the main character developments and the cast of supporting characters was diverse. It was just a little hard to really dig in and get swept away.

Augustus, an acclaimed author of literary fiction and January, a bestselling romance novelist are polar opposites. Each struggling with writer's block and dealing with personal demons, they find themselves living next door to one another for the summer. One evening they strike up a deal: Gus will write something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel.

Emily Henry's Beach Read has been absolutely everywhere, and so I fell victim to the hype and finally dove in. An original and deep plot with a side of romance is typically how I like my romance books, yet for me January and Gus lacked chemistry and I was expecting so, so, so much more from this novel.

There's no denying Emily Henry does banter unlike anyone else. It adds a lightness to often heavy content. With this book, there is excellent individual character growth, but I wasn't invested in the romance at all. In fact, I was way more invested in the plot and them writing their books. I felt as thought it started out strong, but faded by the midway point and never really regained traction. A few of the things I really appreciated were the exploration of grief, the east coast setting, and the letters.

For me, Beach Read was simply an average read, one I'll soon forget, which has me thinking Emily Henry's adult romances may just not be my cup of tea. I appreciate the depth of the plots, but the romance and lack of communication just don't cut it. With that said, I'll probably continue to read her books with hopes of finding one I really love.

"Bad things don't dig down through your life until the pit's so deep that nothing good will ever be big enough to make you happy again. No matter how much shit, there will always be wildflowers."

"Because I know no matter how long I get to love you, it will be worth whatever comes after."

"It was okay to let a little ugliness into your story. That it would never rob you of all the beauty."

Really fun read with surprising depth for a rom-com. I just get frustrated when a story's main conflict boils down to a lack of communication.

I LOVED this book. I read this book shortly after reading Emily Henry's "Book Lovers" and loved this one almost as much. This one was a little harder for me to get into at first, because I felt like the chapters were a little longer than Book Lovers' but once I got into it, I could NOT put it down. I loved Gus so much. I think January was very relatable (a fellow struggling writer lol). I loved the diversity of the cast. Everything about this book was mwah. I highly recommend if you're looking for something with the rivals to lovers trope (one of my personal favorites).

I think this might be my favorite Emily Henry book. I really enjoyed it. I feel like this would be the perfect summer read for a beach vacation. I really loved how the main character's personalities complimented each other. This book is perfect for people who love grumpy x sunshine and the rivals to lovers trope.

I love reading books about authors. It was interesting because this book felt like multiple books at once. You have the overall story of the couples falling in love and then you have the other stories of the books the characters were writing.

This book was very layered. I like how each of the characters had their own individual storylines and they felt complex and real. Overall, this was a fantastic read.
