A cult that ended in the members dying by a fire (the cult leader had them set it) is talked about/investigated throughout the novel. At one point they go to the old compund. The infidelity is not between the two but the leading ladies dad and the leading man's wife (with his best friend not her dad) both are in the past but are plot points in the novel.

This was… all over the place. I think there was a LOT going on to make it super enjoyable. It was well written for sure. I think a few less plot points would have made this a bit more cohesive.
