While the writing is classic Emily Henry and I resonated with the writer's block, I felt like there was actually too much backstory/plot and not enough romance, which surprised me because Emily is usually SPOT on in her romances.

I felt like they were already super attracted to each other from the beginning and I didn't really get to see the romance build, and him being married prior just felt like an unnecessary plot point.

However, it was still enjoyable.

I don't like to read explicit sex scenes. So I was pretty blind sighted when there were a few in there.

Having recently read 4 of her books, Emily Henry has a formula to her plot that is light but highly repetitive.   If you are looking for a ‘beach read’ this is it ~ unless you’ve read 3 of her other books and want a different character development path.

It's books like this that make me wonder why I wait so long to read certain books. I loved everything about this, the romance, the banter, the notes, the challenge, the deepness of what the characters are going through, how real it made them seem, all of it.

Gahhhh this novel is the perfect blend of romance, humor, and heart. The characters felt so real, and I loved how their growth was super relatable, especially when it comes to navigating life’s messy emotions and histories. The witty banter between January and Gus was everything, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. The storyline was just the right balance of light and depth (though the same can be said for all of EH’s novels I love them so much).

“When I watch you sleep,” he said shakily, “I feel overwhelmed that you exist.”

I adored this story about grief and learning to love again after heartbreak. I loved watching January and Gus's story start before it ever really started. Watching them basically find their way back to each other was so beautiful that it might not make you believe in HEA, but happy-for-nows can be just as good.
