Great book, good characters and development. Ending was slightly sudden and could have used a bit more detail. Overall, I liked it but not as much as Henry’s other two books.

A great light-hearted read! Enjoyed using this book as a segue back into reading, a very easy quick read and totally worth while. I'm a sucker for the "grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one" trope.

I liked this book, especially when I needed something lighter to read! It wasn't my favorite thing I'd ever read but I had a good time. There are emotional parts, but it was still an uplifting read. It will definitely make you squeal with excitement if you enjoy romantic moments. I enjoyed the ways it leaned into romance tropes but then deviated by bringing real life into them. It felt like a melding of January's and Gus's styles. There were romance tropes but also small details that Gus would've researched to make a world more real.
"I felt like I was coming apart, like the connective tissue between my left and right ribs had been hacked away and I was going to split." That super sounds like Gus

I liked that the conflict, (assumptions, miscommunications) never did DEEP damage to the relationship, and it was never an awful, irreparable mistake that one of them suddenly forgave. It was always uncomfortable and made them doubt, but it only took thoughtful time and was resolved when they were ready to talk. January didn't have to "fix" Gus. With her, he found it in himself to be better. No one is without their baggage, we just have to learn how to truthfully and healthily communicate while it exists. This, to me, was more like a real relationship and what I view as real love. You won't always be comfortable, but you will find a way to move forward together as long as one of you hasn't done something unforgivable. In that way I felt like I could really relate to the story.

I only wish I'd been able to read it on the deck of a little beach cottage.

I enjoyed how meta this book was. in many ways it was a book about writer’s block and the process of writing a story. i like that the story didn’t sugarcoat on the one hand and also didn’t exaggerate the characters struggles too far so that they became unsympathetic. i wasn’t much until the way the sexual aspects of the protagonist’s relationship was described. I would have loved to have gotten more of a glimpse of what Gus’s writing had been like and how he would have written his romance novel than the more general look we got. i do plan on checking out more of the authors work in the future, though.

I enjoyed this book, it was cute. I feel like the characters missed some depth though and the miscommunication trope isn't my thing.

it had my favorite trope regarding enemies/rivals to lovers which is that one of them has always had feelings for the other and it made me scream when i realized
