I am easily confused when a timeline jumps around. January keeps jumping into her memories out of the blue, making me dizzy. But our Present timeline was emotional yet fun.

Our two main characters were very three-dimensional. Gus was flawed, but still lovable, and all of his actions were understandable based on Henry’s good writing. And omg the banter. They were both so droll and willing to play along in an instant.

Just a note, the title and cover art of the book are very misleading. They I think go to the beach twice, but they never read at the beach.

Not my usual genre but this was kinda cuteeeee

I debated what to rate this book, but because I don’t think I’d recommend it to any friend, I have to give it 2/5 stars. The tropes it used, I dislike, but Emily Henry always does a good job of portraying the inner termoil of her characters—no less so in this book. It was also one of the most open door of her books I’ve read so far… That combined with the tropes were too much for me, even though I genuinely liked the protagonist and her wrestlings.
