I am starting my new year’s resolution of writing reviews for the books I read so here goes nothing. Let me just start by saying that I absolutely LOVE this series and it will forever have a special place in my heart (basically a reread is imminent haha). I have shed so many tears of sadness, anger and frustration over these books which just goes to show the amazing writer that J.J. McAvoy is. This is also the reason why I will read anything she writes.

On to my actual thoughts of the book. So overall I enjoyed the book. Getting to see the characters again and obviously more Liam and Melody scenes and I find it quite nostalgic, calming (I honestly dont know what the word is) that series comes to an end at the end of 2020.
Whilst I am glad that Ethan and Calliope weren’t going to destroy the family and basically go against the family principle I feel like it was a complete 360 from the previous book. I still don’t know if thats a bad thing or not.
I really do agree with a lot of the characters that it looks as if every person except for Ethans and Calliope suffered.
Their cousins all lost a parent, Wyatt’s relationship as a result is in shambles even Dona has suffered from both not knowing about her parents and having one of them suffer so much. It feels as if Ethan and Calliope got away scot free.
I am not going to lie in the beginning I thought Ivy and Ethan were endgame but Calliope has grown on me and I can very much see the her resemblance of Melody which Im guessing is the point.

Another thing that annoyed me was how Ethan knew every bloody thing and was there to save the day. Calliope pulls some crippling move, Ethan knows. I get being 10 steps ahead is important but about EVERY SINGLE THING !!

Also I didn’t like how Calliope justified killing Coraline. Like yes she was already dying but she could have spent that extra time she had left with her family and prevented Declan’s suffering. Also Neal. Omggg I feel like crying every time I think about it. It was such a heart wrenching moment to see him feel like this is what he has to do to makeup for everything. And then Evelyn. Honest to God she is my favourite character. I full on sobbed when she died.

Overall, I enjoyed the book despite the things I just mentioned. I loved seeing more of Liam and Melody. I loved seeing the dynamic between the uncles and aunts and the general banter. There’s obvs as you get with McAvoy the plot twists which I never see coming. Like I said this series will always have a special place in my heart especially the OG series (basically a reread is imminent haha).

Really want to hear what everyone thinks so I would appreciate it if you commented :)

Emotional messed up

I feel like from the beginning to the end, this book made me feel so many emotions. But I finished this book in beautiful tears but not enough to give it one star (don't be petty people). Not gonna lie, I wish they J J didn't tell us what finally happens to Liam but this book hands down are the best I have read this year and I'm glad I have been on this ride for seven years

I don't think I've ever been more angry at the conclusion of a series before.

I am simply going to pretend that this series and A Bloody Kingdom don't exist.

Even if I had liked the ending (I didn't), the whole book felt dry and I was so detached from everything until near the end. The constant flashbacks and time skips were odd and off-putting, continuously taking me out of the narrative.

I'm so dissapointed.

I wish they could continue Calli and Ethan's story, the rest of the characters are not that appealing, maybe because of how Ethan and Calli portrayed them as people who don't understand them.

This was a good ending to a great family. I thought this book showed Ethan and Calliope in a much better light. I felt like I understood their motives and actions much more which made the book more enjoyable.

You know how you scroll Facebook and don’t pay attention. Then realize you just read a post from a spoiler group. And realize you just had a book you’ve been waiting on for what seems like forever, spoiled. Yeah that’s me. Mindlessly scrolling Facebook. And realize I was in the life of vice spoiler group and just had the book spoiled. So I knew more that I wanted to going in. If it’s in a series I tend to not even read the blurb because I don’t want to know a single thing. I want to go in blind. So while this was a good book and I did read it in one sitting cause hello I was hoping the spoilers were wrong..... but no. Those were right. Anyways it was a great ending to an awesome series and it’s a bitter sweet ending.
