💌 The Essential Rumi Translated By Coleman Barks
I have been a sucker for romance, poetry, songs, and physical touches ever since I first got my hold on it. Ever since I could ever get a mere glimpse of it. But, you know, there are moments of vulnerability in our souls that makes us think otherwise. Or mend your path in the other direction. Because in this world there are the books like these that make me rethink my utter belief and foundation I just laid out in the open before. This book surely took me forever to end. But, honey, will I sell my soul for it? To just read and feel it for the very first time. Undoubtedly, yes. Because throughout the read I had my space. A zone I could lead to and be alone through all the flipping pages. It was the kind of intimacy I hope everyone feels and experiences at least once in life. The intimacy that does not require a human touch. Because all you could succumb to in that goddamn moment is reading poetry late at night under the dim light. So at that moment, I know I am healed and content. As if I need no connection or interaction with a human being ever again.

I might have loved (or hated) this book with its enticing cover, if the publishers hadn't decided to go with the faux deckled edge format. I despise faux deckled edges. Flipping through a book with faux deckled edges feels like nails on a chalkboard to me. I hate the feel of these so much that after six months of listlessly staring at this book on my shelf, I'm finally admitting to myself that I won't ever want to open it and get lost in the words. Short of reading the book cover-to-cover, I just can't do it. And a poetry book that needs to be read cover-to-cover is like a woman squeezed into a corset: it may have a certain kind of beauty, but that beauty is not real, and it won't ever feel like the real thing. True beauty needs to breathe freely. Please don't corset poetry.
On a different note, the author's notes give me the impression that he created this "translation" from other English translations, rather than going back to the source? If this is accurate, then the poems here are re-imaginings, or reinterpretations, or perhaps even original poetry inspired by Rumi translations, but they are not translations. Whoever decided to call them translations deals in fake coin, and should not be trusted.

This is the first poetry book I read in English and it's first poetry book I read in a long time...it's not for me I don't vibe with his style.
This collection is Bliss, every sentence takes you through different stages of tranquility. Every word unlocks something within you, something you never knew was locked.
Coleman Barks translated the poetry from its original language to English; translating a language to another often leads to loss of depth and complete meanings . If translated poems could make me feel such awesome joy, how would the real text feel?

Rumi is Gold, lay your hands on this book! Like Now!.
