I hated this book as a kid. I found most of it boring and the rest too sad. I could probably cope with it now, but can't imagine actually enjoying it. Mole's poor abandoned house! Ratty is such a pointless person to run away for. His only attraction is that he's posh. The whole book is riddled with the nastiest snobbery. Go stoats and weasels! Overthrow the aristocracy!
One of the most magical and beautiful books ever written. The language is breathtaking and the story sweet and most of all it is a delicious way of escapism. “Like summer tempest’s came his tears” might be one of the most beautiful sentences ever written.
Just the best before-bed emotional-weighted-blanket reading. I love what a hot mess Toad is, and what a sweet friendship Rat and Mole have.

I really loved this at first but it became a little tedious. There wasn’t much direction and the characters were frustrating. But the world was very cool and comforting.
Cute lil book about the adventures of Mole, Rat, Badger, and Toad. Toad kind of annoyed me actually. But it was really cute and I love reading about animals and the shenanigans they get up to. Don’t really know what else to say about this.
