I read a whole bunch of VC Andrews books in junior high and high school. This was the first one I read and is perhaps the most well known of her works. I tore through these books and would always buy the new ones as soon as they appeared on the bookstore shelves.

I do not enjoying the writing and I find most of the text boring. Too much needless dialogue, too.

Wow. That's all I have to say about this book. I did buy the other ones, though, so I guess I enjoyed it - as much as someone can enjoy a story of abuse and captivity like this. Also, die Corrine Foxworth <3

This is a book I first heard about many years ago when my Nan would tell me every Friday where she’d got to in the book! I was fascinated and chose to read it myself and It didn’t disappoint! I loved this book so much and it’s never left me.

The second half of this book was a lot better than the first. It’s definitely very slow but the plot is intriguing and you can’t help but feel distraught at what they are doing through.

I nearly quit my reread of this old book. The language is so dated and I was sure I wouldn't enjoy it at all. The regular uses of "golly" and "for" this and that were a bit annoying but by the time the kids were locked in the attic a while, I was hooked again, just like I was as a teenager.

Yes, this old-ish lady bought the sequel, [b:Petals on the Wind|226709|Petals on the Wind (Dollanganger, #2)|V.C. I can't remember if I read past book three all those years ago, and I won't commit to reading past book two now, but I suppose some stories are truly timeless. What's not to love about a well-done evil mother revenge story?
