Argghhs. That was a painful, emotional rollercoaster. The book left me angry, sad and weirdly numb all at once, considering what happened, but also what could have been and what stays unclear. The ending was like a punch I’ll never recover from.

I finished this in the middle of the night one night, unwilling to go to sleep just to see what happened next. How Suzanne Collins got me to accidentally read a 520 page book in two days can be chalked up to how unpredictable and compelling it was. Surprising beginnings for such a villainous character as Snow, but his continuous descent into radical thinking and behavior in the name of patriotism was not. Quite a timely piece of writing about how people like Snow will never face lasting consequences for their actions, no matter how terrible, under the systems that grant them power. Love Suzanne Collins for that.
