Hmm, an odd one. While I feel like this was a decent histrom attempt, it just never fully did it for me. I could not connect with the leads, either as individuals or as a couple. I didn’t fully buy their romance or their chemistry? It felt forced a lot of the time. It also felt like too many subplots and coincidences for me to take the book seriously or to be convinced at all. A shame really because it had potential and I can see why others would really enjoy it.

Hmm… Boring af. Bring back the bodice ripper angsty good times. I skimmed a lot!

Well, this was lots of fun! :)

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks and Net Galley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed the vast majority of this book. The reason I chose to give it the rating I have is because I felt the book's momentum begin to wane after about 60% of the way in. I found myself getting distracted by other books and not really in a hurry to finish this one. However, overall I think this book was successful and I would totally recommend this to other romance readers.

Our heroine, Artemis, is a teacher by day, and a secret Gothic romance writer by night with absolutely no desire to get married. Our hero, Dominic Winters (AKA the Duke of Dartmoor -- what a title!!), is a brooding widow with a troubled past- one that has been the fuel for many rumours and speculation surrounding the death of his wife- and a teenaged daughter named Celeste who is enraptured by Artemis' (or should I say, Lydia Lovelace's) books.

I loved their banter at the beginning of this book! Anytime we see a strong, independent woman in a historical romance, I am down for the ride- and thankfully, so was the Duke of Dartmoor. ;) However, I did think they may have gotten hot and heavy a little too fast for my liking. I think this may have been the reason why I felt the story start to slow down around the midway mark.

The secondary characters were also great! Sometimes I find secondary characters aren't as developed or thought-out as our protagonists and antagonists, but I loved hating on Miss Shields, Aunt Roberta, and Lord Gascoyne, and I'm very curious about the next book in this series and how this Byronic book club factors into the story. :)

Up All Night with a Good Duke, by Amy Rose Bennett. I loved it! I loved it! I absolutely one hundred percent loved this wonderfully written historical romance novel. Mrs, Bennett has outshined her writing in this book.
I was captivated my the romance, the passion from some illicit sexual nights and the heartfelt emotions of being able to love no matter what. I loved the joy and the sometimes rough challenges of putting one’s self out on display for everyone to see and face the tons judging ways. Artemis and Dominic had each other to lean on during these times. I loved how the writer created a story line that was able to real in the the hopeless romantics out there. Believe when I say this book is really good and the love making is wild.
I found the story exciting and the book very entertaining. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

I enjoyed this one! The characters were well developed and the progression of their relationship was done well. Artemis is driven and has no interest in marriage but she is willing to undergo a season to get one for her sister. Dominic is looking for a wife to help him with his daughter but with rumors abound saying he murdered his last wife, he's having a difficult time. When these two meet, sparks start to fly and their story kept me turning the pages to see how things would end up.

If you're looking for a quick and engaging read in the historical romance genre, definitely pick this one up.

A Byronic Hero and a brazen bluestocking, who spouts clever curses-such as "Lucifer's love truncheon"-collide in this intriguing first book in a series.

Artemis Jones is a heroine who has strong ideals and goals that drive her to ensure her independence from a the institution of marriage. But when Artemis meets Dominic Winters, the widowed Duke of Dartmoor, she is absolutely intrigued by the passion that he evokes in her. Dominic feels the same way, and the story whisks these two into a whirlwind of a fake engagement and more obligations than Artemis bargained for.

I found the story entertaining and I enjoyed the second half far more than the first half of the book. The second portion of the story had tension, nefarious characters with less than noble intentions, and a more enjoyable portion of Artemis and Dominic's romance arc.

What I found to be the most intriguing about this book was the author's almost fourth wall commentary on romance novels. Artemis's dialogue conveyed the defenses romance readers have to make even to this day. The heroine's comments are also a bit cheeky in that they comment upon romance novels such as the exact one that Amy Rose Bennett is writing-I found it to be a brilliant tactic on the author's part. And I know my commentary is a bit oblique, but being that this is an arc review, I cannot reveal too much. But I would recommend watching for those quotes, they gave an amusing and intelligent slant to the structure of this story.

3-3.5 stars!
