extremely good read! I finished it in four days, but be warned this is a book about war and it does not shy away from ANY of the atrocities and cruelties of war.

FUCK from the moment i started reading this book I could not put it down. Like I am actually about to buy the sequel from my local bookstore because I need to know what happens next. It’s well written, the twists are so good and keep you on your toes, the characters are nuanced, especially by bbg Rin.

I never truly connected to this book. It was a chore to get through it. I was also put off by the drug use that was clearly intimated by the title. I know this is a popular book but did not come across well for me.

This was an interesting book. I enjoyed the historical elements and learning about the parallels to the second Sino-Japanese war. I wish more attention had been on that than on the mysticism aspect. I found many parts of the story to be overwritten and not really moving the narrative or themes. Would not recommend to most people.
