This book is phenomenal. I do recommend checking your trigger warnings before reading.

The world building is exquisitely done, it was so thorough and complete. You don't have to question why things are happening or how things got to where they are. R. F. Kuang did a fantastic job.

Rin is such a complex, strong and nuanced character. I could feel their pain, moral conflicts, fear and urge for justice as if I was Rin.

Whoah!
I am in awe again of wonderfully written fantasy. This was my first intro to RF Kuang, and it did not disappoint; I am henceforth a HUGE fan of hers and her writing.
.
So The Poopy Wars.. a little bit based on history, a little added flavor of The Art of War, and a lot of fantastical sprinkles to give it a huge punch to the face!

Run is a war orphan who had a beautiful mind and harder work ethic. She convinces the town tutor to teach her for the test so she can leave her adoptive family’s abuse and become something more.
But to her surprise, and everyone else’s she aces the test and is shipped off Sinegard, the most elite military school in Nikan. She’s met with sneers and dislike being a simple girl and war orphan. Most of the students here are from prominent families and war god legacy’s. She’s got a lot to prove and little time to do it. There is a war festering and Rin needs to figure out how to obtain her power before the Federation invades.
This tale is full of twists and turns, things you’d never see coming and betrayals abundance. It leaves on a cliffhanger so had the second book handy to keep reading!

Not a terrible book, but after some additional research I found some unsettling factors that made me rethink my opinions on the book. Please look into the Japanese/Chinese conflicts during WW2 if you need more information.
