Badge of Lies is a skilfully crafted novel that strips open the exterior of a hard headed cop – Frank Arnold, who is not only struggling with the death of his best friend but also fights regaining ground between the job that has hardened his perception of life and what he should stand for. His character is set as a real hard-core, blue blood - cop who is toughened by the crime he fights. He is in no way a straight forward idol or symbol of courage – and that I like.

What makes this novel so intriguing – at least for me - is the fact that Jason Kahn went out of his way to throw readers into the explicit truths of not only the main character but also that of the friend – Mitch Connell, who he morns. The story is weaved majestically between the faltered main character and his obsession to unravel the secrets his friend had tried to carry to his grave.

The intrigue and mystery flows side - by - side creating an explosive Police Thriller as Kahn enslaves reader’s minds to run riot with the obvious. Sometimes damaged cops need to do bad things to become the better person.

What I liked:

I think it’s very clear that I loved the twisted plot. I craved to puzzle up the obvious battered character, to un-knot the seemingly hurt mind of Frank Arnold. Kahn really did a good job of describing his surroundings, of luring me in and un-raveling pieces to the plot at just the right time. Throughout the entire novel I felt as if I could see it play down, as if I shared the characters thoughts, as if the way he acted was something I could associate with.
There really wasn't something I could put towards a dislike. It’s a novel which you would either love or hate. I think it was an easy enough read to be read and enjoyed by just about anyone.

I give it a very strong four out of five - with odds, I might add - definitely tilting towards the five.

Great read.
