This was not what I expected, so maybe that’s my fault… but I just found it way too complicated and seemingly unending. The premise of a murder-mystery meets groundhog-day book sounds exciting I guess, but there was just way too much going on and all of the characters fell flat :( I can’t bring myself to rate it too low, however, because I have to admit that the author’s a genius for having the idea in the first place.

My brain… hurts. I guess it came together in the end but I didn’t necessarily enjoy the sheer volume of information I had to consume and keep track of to get there.

“Too little information and you’re blind, too much and you’re blinded.”
I was definitely blinded.

It takes about 100-some odd pages to actually start getting somewhere. Convoluted and a bit hard to keep track of the characters. However, I liked the aspect of seeing the crime from multiple points of view. Lends itself to being read more than once. Despite knowing the ending, I believe a 2nd go-through will definitely be easier.

Second time reading this, this time alongside my family for our weekly book club. They really loved it but was not as memorable for me the second time around :/

I haven't wanted to read a book with this much anticipation in a WHILE. A beloved podcast based in the UK covered it in February, and it wasn't released in the US until September.

Anyways - it lived up to my mental hype! Creepy, clever, complex murder mystery; I was consistently engrossed and in the dark about what might have happened (..but it wasn't so complicated that it made no sense or failed to have a satisfying ending).

Might be a fun one for book club due to the novelty of the form/premise.

“I really hope you enjoy it. I hope it keeps you reading until zam, and you wake up late the next morning and drag yourself to work still thinking about it. Just don't blame me if that happens. It's Doris's fault. And I can't thank her enough.”

I love love love reading a work of fiction that is so clearly a passion-project! I love when I can feel the author’s love for the story through the words!! I love when you can tell so much work and research and drafts have been gone through just to get to a fantastic final product that you know they’re proud of.
Crazy, messy, fun — go read this!

Second time around for this one. I first read it 4 years ago and my mind was completely blown. The story is extremely intricate and convoluted to the point that when I finished it originally I knew I enjoyed it, but had missed A TON of stuff within the story and truly most of the time I had no sweet clue what was going on. So I vowed I would try it again at some point to see if I could absorb it any better.
This time I got the audiobook from the library, thinking I would grasp the story better if someone was reading it to me… Yeah, No, still had no sweet clue what was going on, although I did remember bits and pieces from the first reading. I still have SO MANY QUESTIONS! Still enjoyed it immensely though. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime. 3rd time’s the charm maybe?

What a wild ride! It took me 2 tries to get through this - I am so bad at keeping up with so many characters - but I restarted yesterday and had so much fun once I understood what exactly was happening. I can't wait to watch this when it becomes a series.
