DID NOT FINISH: 55%

Turned into a whole romance spiel which I don't gaf about halfway through. Where's these guys' adventurous spirit? Hell, D'Artagnan abandoned the rest of the gang on their first quest together. Not very 'all for one, one for all' of him.

Still my favorite book

Although, at the end of this version was some discussion questions. One was "Discuss Dumas' female characters, in particular Milady. What is her role in the novel, and what does this reveal about Dumas's views of women, if anything? Does Dumas depict a war between the sexes?"

This question intrigued me throughout the novel, but I'm not totally sure I have much to add. I'd like to seek out what others may think about this question. It's hard to real that question, then read the novel and not think the novel has a misogynist streak to it. Milady is a stereotypical succubus, using her beauty and charm to lure men to their deaths. Constance has some cleverness, but is mostly just very pretty.

I'd love to find some papers that flesh these out more and discuss it.

That said.... This is still my favorite book and I love it so much.

Entertaining story, but the heros are 17th century frat boys. The intrigues are mostly frivolous and silly.

A great intro into the real thing. Listened the shortened version to get a feel for it before reading the hard copy. Looking forward to it. Strong Monty Python vibes which I loved. Got a little lost once all the characters were introduced so keen to learn more as I read.

This should really get four and a half stars.  It's also interesting what their attitudes about money were back then.  FUN READ and a CLASSIC!
