This is easily one of the best books I've ever read. I had a great time reading, "The Three Musketeers," because it was so much fun.

I loved the characters.

I wish we still lived in a time where if you so much as insult my shirt, I will challenge you to a duel and kill you.

I would challenge people to duels ALL the time.

I'd be like, "You said what about my shirt? Meet me in the parking lot by the dumpster in an hour and be prepared to die."

I loved everything about this book.

I loved the Musketeers and D'Artagan. Their adventures were riveting.

The evilest villain I've read about (outside maybe Cathy Ames from East of Eden) was Milady de Winter.

Milady was SO EVIL, but also so beautiful and so smart, a part of you had to love her.

This was a great book. I've got to read more books by Alexandre Dumas.

I figure I wouldn't be a decent fencer if I hadn't read The Three Musketeers. The book doesn't actually contain a lot of sword fighting (I guess it comes off better on film than in text), but it is an excellent story nonetheless and worthy of being the classic that it is known to be. The plot is twisty, but not hard to negotiate, and the characters are fun and engaging. I always assumed the book had been written much earlier than it was (like in the 1600s, at the time it depicts, rather than 1844), so that was an interesting surprise, and I'm not sure whether its the translation I read (from 1984), but the language is not as archaic and flowery as I expected (even for 1844), so it was easy to read and felt quite modern. It's also very witty and amusing - again, not sure if that's the translator or Dumas coming through, but either way, it made for an enjoyable read. Much recommended!

i've read this book a few times. it's just good.

Pathos, Athos, Artemis and D'artagnan.
Funny in the beginning how they meet, the three musketeers each challenging D'Artagnan to a duel separately. Fun adventure story.
Crazy that Mmd Bonacieux (D'Artagnan's love interest) is murdered by Milady (Athos' ex wife whom he thought was dead). There's no happily ever after.
The Cardinal isn't as bad as I thought. He's not really the main antagonist that we think he is in the beginning.
Dumas showed the futility of wars in those times. How the love of a queen could start a war between countries.
Milady was cunning, I was impressed with how she was able to manipulate the puritan guard she had to make him believe she was the victim and entice him to betray his people for her and kill the Duke. She was cunning and intelligent and I admired that. If these kings/dukes are going to start wars, killing thousands of innocent people, over a queen, she can kill a duke for a quid pro quo. (The cardinal would send Athos to the Bastille if she was successful). She was also able to manipulate the women of the convent and Mmde Bonascieux to gain her trust.
How casually the muskateers would challenge someone to a duel and how casual it was to have a mistress is crazy. (Porthos and his mistress situation).
I thought Artemis was going to be involved with spies or something. I didn't get a lot of clarification with that. I would've liked to have flushed out Athos' past and Artemis' past.
Athos was a name he created for himself, he really came from nobility. Why did he pretend he was dead?
