I'm not sure I like the 4 main characters, who do what they like with booze, women and kill whoever they want. Luckily the last part of the book is mainly about the female villain, who at the end was summarily killed (murdered) by the musketeers. The story is enticing though. 2½ stars.

Exhilarating and funny. I didn’t expect this to be so funny and full of hi jinx. The protagonist is wily and loves to outsmart his enemies. And he’s quite good at it. It’s classic Dumas. Very dramatic and action-packed with lots of “of its time” misogyny and whatnot. I enjoyed this a lot.
