A slow start, but worth it in the end. Completely intriguing. May start out slowly, but it is brimming with secrets from the start. Secrets which only intensify as the book progresses. Maybe a little confusing, which, of course, only adds to the mystery and temptation. One of the few books of this genre writter from the point of view of a male protagonist. A bit difficult to understand in some instances due to the use of unfamiliar slang. Just wonderful.
medium-paced
i love being late to the 2010s ya dystopian craze though i will only accept thg and maze runner........
It's brain candy but really it feels like a remake of lord of the flies.
I really liked it. obviously made for the y. a. audience. simply written, but totally had me turning pages. definitely reading the next one to figure out what the hell is happening.

i wasn’t able to finish this book. i found it to be a little boring, i think the movie’s better but it lacked my taste in books.
While obviously a set up for a series (no real resolution), it wasn't bad. Could've been shorter. I wish I'd had more of an emotional connection with any of the characters.

90% of the story was literally the title, as in he wanted to run in the maze and then he got to…. Last 10%, plot is revealed and this could have happened at any point. It meant I wasn’t that invested or interested for the final reveal. 1 star for the fact it made me want to know what was happening, and another star because my 12 year old son said it was a brilliant story, so that’s a good thing.
